The National Innovation (Subclass 858) Visa is a permanent visa targeted at individuals with records of exceptional achievement in their field. Typically, successful applicants will have an international reputation for their contributions to their respective profession, or a history of building businesses in priority sectors.

The Department is currently looking for applicants with a history of exceptional achievement in:

  • Critical Technologies

Before applying for their visa, applicants must first submit an Expression of Interest. If accepted, the Department of Home Affairs will invite the prospective applicant to apply for their visa, and provide evidence to substantiate claims made in the EOI.

Professionals considering applying for this visa should first discuss their case with a qualified professional to get a realistic understanding of prospects of success, as well as information on whether other visa types may deliver permanent residency faster.
